What is The Significance of Nirjala Ekadashi?

According to Hindu teachings, Nirjala Ekadashi is very important for religious and spiritual reasons. It happens during the bright half of the month and is also known as Jyeshtha Shukla Ekadashi. On this day, people fast without food or water. They can only drink water the next day after ending their fast. Nirjala Ekadashi is one of the toughest and most respected fasts. Devotees pray to Lord Vishnu and keep this fast with great devotion.

Here’s what to do on Nirjala Ekadashi:

  • After cleaning, devotees start their prayers early in the morning.
  • Place the idol of Lord Vishnu on a wooden board.
  • Offer flowers, homemade sweets, a sandalwood mark, and light a lamp with ghee.
  • Give Tulsi leaves to Lord Vishnu.
  • Pray to God before starting the day.
  • Chant the Shri Krishna Mahamantra throughout the day.
  • The next day, on Dwadashi, end the fast by eating and drinking during Parana.
