Varuthini Ekadasi is celebrated according to the Vedic calendar on the 11th day of the Krishna Paksha (the waning moon) in the month of Vaishakha.
Donations on this day multiply spiritual benefits and help remove past karmas.
Varuthini Ekadasi honors Lord Vamana, a form of Lord Vishnu. The story comes from the Varaha Purana. It tells of a king named Mandhata who ruled fairly but faced many troubles because of a curse from a sage. To find help, King Mandhata asked his royal priest, Vasishta Muni, for advice. The sage told him to observe Varuthini Ekadasi with true devotion. King Mandhata followed this advice, fasting and doing all the rituals on that day. Because he observed Varuthini Ekadasi sincerely, King Mandhata overcame his problems and brought prosperity back to his kingdom. This story shows the importance of observing Ekadasi with faith to receive blessings and overcome life's challenges.
By observing Varuthini Ekadasi, devotees ask for forgiveness for their past mistakes, seek to purify their minds and souls, and pray for a happy and successful life. It is believed that observing this fast with sincerity can bring spiritual growth and divine blessings.
Annadanam (food donation), temple seva, and helping the needy are considered the best.
