In the Hindu calendar, the Chaturdashi Tithi of Krishna Paksha is celebrated as Masik Shivratri or Mas Shivratri. Devotees of Lord Shiva fast and worship the Shivling on this day. There are twelve Masik Shivratris each year.
The Shivratri in the month of Shravan is called Sawan Shivratri. The whole month of Shravan is special for worshipping Lord Shiva, making Sawan Shivratri very important. The most significant Shivratri is Maha Shivratri, which happens in the month of Phalgun, usually in February or March.
Worshiping Lord Shiva during four prahars and Nishita Muhurta is considered very good. On Sawan Shivratri, the best time for Shiva worship (Nishita Muhurta) is from 12:07 AM to 12:48 AM.

Offering water to Lord Shiva during Sawan is very beneficial, especially on Sawan Shivratri. It's believed that doing Jalabhishek (pouring water) on this day brings blessings and fulfills wishes. This year, Sawan Shivratri will be on July 23. It is a great time to perform Jalabhishek. Many devotees visit famous Shiva temples like Kashi Vishwanath and Badrinath Dham during this month to receive Lord Shiva's blessings.
Wake up before sunrise, take a bath, and wear clean clothes. Decide to fast for the day. Spread a clean red cloth on a small table or platform in your home temple. Place idols or pictures of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati there.
Next, perform Abhishekam (ritual bathing) of Lord Shiva with raw milk, yogurt, Gangajal, and clean water. Put sandalwood paste on Lord Shiva and kumkum on Goddess Parvati. Complete the worship and do Aarti (light offering). Finally, offer fruits or sweets to the deities.
