What Is Aja Ekadashi?

Aja Ekadashi is one of the sacred Ekadashi observances in the Hindu calendar. Devotees traditionally observe the Aja Ekadashi Vrat with devotion, prayer, meditation and remembrance of Lord Vishnu.

The day is also considered an opportunity to practice daan, seva and good deeds. By helping others through food donation, Annadan and charitable activities, devotees can turn their spiritual observance into meaningful service.

Aja Ekadashi Puja Method

  • On AjaEkadashi, wake up early and take a bath.
  • Make a promise to fast in front of Lord Vishnu.
  • Set up a statue of Lord Vishnu.
  • Give him yellow flowers, fruits, panchamrit, panjiri, sweets, and basil leaves.
  • Say the mantra "Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevay" 108 times.
  • Read or listen to the Yogini Ekadashi story.
  • At the end, do Aarti with faith.
  • The next day, on Dwadashi, end your fast with the food offered to Lord Vishnu.
  • Avoid bad things while fasting.
