Utpanna Ekadashi

Utpanna Ekadashi, also called ‘Uttpatti Ekadashi’, is celebrated on the 11th day of the waning moon in the month of Margashirsh according to the Hindu calendar. In the Gregorian calendar, it usually happens between November and December. Hindus who start fasting on Ekadashi should begin with Utpanna Ekadashi. Many believe that this day helps people get rid of their sins from both this life and past lives.

Utpanna Ekadashi also marks the victory of Lord Vishnu over a demon named Murasura. Additionally, according to Hindu stories, this day is when Ekadashi Mata was born.

Utpanna Ekadashi Fast and Worship Method — Shri Ram Temple Kamarpal

Utpanna Ekadashi

Utpanna Ekadashi Fast and Worship Method

  • The fast begins on the night of Dashami. After having dinner on Dashami Tithi, one should thoroughly brush their teeth to ensure no traces of food remain in the mouth.
  • Subsequently, do not eat anything at night, and avoid expending energy through excessive conversation.
  • On the day of Ekadashi, wake up during Brahma Muhurta and first take a vow to fast. After completing your daily activities, take a bath to cleanse yourself. Worship God and listen to the fasting story.
  • Throughout the day, those observing the fast should avoid the company of sinful or malicious individuals who engage in wrongful actions.
  • In the evening, engage in Bhajan and Kirtan. Seek forgiveness from Lord Shri Hari for any mistakes committed, whether knowingly or unknowingly.
  • On Dwadashi, one should feed a Brahmin or a poor person in the morning, make an appropriate donation, and then break the fast. Fasting in this manner is considered very pious and fruitful.
