Dussehra

Vijayadashami celebrates the victory of Lord Rama over the demon Ravana and the triumph of Goddess Durga over the buffalo demon Mahishasura. It is also called Dussehra or Dasara. In Nepal, Dasara is known as Dashain. On Vijayadashami, people perform rituals like Shami Puja, Aparajita Puja, and Seema Avalanghan. According to Hindu beliefs, these rituals should be done during the Aparahna time of the day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why We Celebrate Dussehra? Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, is a festival that celebrates the triumph of good over evil. The central message of this festival is the victory of righteousness. Lord Rama, in a momentous battle, defeated the Demon King Ravana on this very day. Similarly, Goddess Durga vanquished the demon Mahishasura from the earth. This parallel between the two events underscores the universal message of Dussehra: the triumph of light over darkness, truth over falsehoods, and goodness over evil.
